Spring may be the season of renewal and new life and yet your skin looks
dull and lifeless! Yes, those long winter months can wreak havoc on
your skin and by spring your skin is dry and coarse. Most of us
overcompensate by slathering our faces with creams and moisturizers
which do little to help and often cause pimples and acne outbreaks.
Homemade skin care products are an excellent option as they are easy to
prepare and are free of chemical additives. Homemade products also have a
very high nutritive value and often deliver quick results.
Do not try to follow elaborate and impractical skin care schedules, but instead choose a simple plan that you can follow on a daily basis. Here are a few homemade recipes for your skin care regimen.
Cleanser: Mix equal amounts of fresh lemon juice and cucumber juice, pour the mixed juice into a small bottle and refrigerate it. When you wake up in the morning, dampen a cotton swab with a generous amount of this liquid and gently wipe your face with it for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you have dry skin, you can add a drop of jojoba oil to the bottle and shake it well before each use. Those with oily skin, can add a small amount of tomato juice instead.
Moisturizer: It is important that you always use a moisturizer after you wash your face. Pour a small amount of fresh coconut water into a bottle and add a few drops of jojoba oil to it. Mix the contents and then pour out a few drops onto your finger tips and slowly massage the liquid into your skin. If you have dry skin you can add a drop of sweet almond oil to this liquid but if you have oily skin, add a few drops of grapefruit juice instead.
Exfoliator and Face Pack: You should exfoliate your face at least once a week. After you have exfoliated, use a homemade rejuvenation face pack to nourish your skin and improve your complexion. Crush a handful of mixed unsalted nuts and store the powder in a sealed container in your fridge. Mix one spoon of this powder to an equal amount of fuller’s earth and add a little water to the mixture so that it forms a paste. Gently massage your face with this paste for 5 minutes or so as this will help to slough off the upper layer of dead skin. Mix a few spoons of freshly mashed banana and papaya and apply a thick layer to your face. Allow it to dry completely before rinsing your face with cold water. Bananas are rich in vitamin A, B and E and will help to nourish your skin while papaya contains a natural enzyme called papain which helps to rejuvenate your skin and give you a healthy complexion.
You can also steam your face once a month before exfoliation to deep cleanse your skin. Steam helps to get rid of excessive oil within your pores which in turn will reduce the likelihood of blackheads and whiteheads. It takes just 5 minutes a day to have healthy glowing skin
