Protecting Your Skin

The most important thing to do in order to protect your skin is to reduce your time in the sun. Some basic anti-aging skin treatments are very simple to apply: treat your skin gently, keep yourself hydrated, and make sure to have your skin checked annually for any changes that may occur. Cigarette smoking is also known to cause wrinkles, so that is yet another reason to give up smoking.
Sun damage can be prevented even for people who spend a lot of time outdoors. Always use a sun screen, wear protective clothing and try not to be outside when the sun is the strongest. Also, always check with your doctor to see if the medications that you are currently taking can cause additional damage to your skin.
Sunscreens with an SPF of 15 is generally high enough, since this absorbs 92% of the sun’s UV radiation. After 15 the numbers really become less important. For instance, in a sunscreen with an SPF of 30, this will absorb 97% of the sun’s UV radiation. As the numbers get higher, they become meaningless. Even with sunscreen, it is very important to limit the amount of time that you spend in the sun.
